Our School: Care and Fair India

In May 2007, two Cargo One partners were exploring Mindanao in the Philippines, and saw a defunct Montessori school. Without hesitation, they obtained the consent of the third partner, and started the process of forming a tuition-free school right there on the spot. Having started a free school in Northern India back in 1995, funding and nursing it for the next 14 years, teaching K-12 to over 300 children annually, the necessary experience was at hand.

In September of 2007, operations started, initially with two teachers and one administrator, teaching english to 65 underprivileged pre-school age children in four sessions each Saturday and Sunday. These children will have better opportunities once accepted to public schools there since proficiency in English guarantees access to the fast track, giving them infinitely more opportunities later on.

As of June 2009, we educate 135 children in six classes, every week day. The staff consists of three certified teachers, one administrator, and one caretaker. We continue to offer free tuition, as well as uniforms and books for the children and the staff.
